Nhiều dịch vụ có cơ chế sao chép dữ liệu giống nhau nhưng phục vụ mục đích khác: khôi phục sau sự cố, di chuyển hệ thống hoặc nhân bản dữ liệu.

Một số dịch vụ có cơ chế gần giống nhau (sao chép liên tục, restore từ bản sao) nhưng phục vụ mục đích khác. Chọn từng dịch vụ để xem trường hợp sử dụng, lý do không phù hợp trong tình huống MFTECH tương ứng, và phương án nên chọn:

DR cho server on-premises hoặc trên cloud: sao chép liên tục vào một staging area subnet chi phí thấp (storage giá rẻ, compute tối thiểu) trong account AWS; launch recovery instance trong vài phút với trạng thái mới nhất hoặc một point in time trước đó; drill không gián đoạn và failback về site chính khi sự cố được khắc phục. AWS mô tả RPO tính bằng giây và RTO tính bằng phút. DRS thay thế CloudEndure Disaster Recovery (trang CloudEndure Disaster Recovery hiện chuyển hướng về trang AWS DRS).

Vì sao không chọn trong tình huống này

MFTECH chuyển hẳn các VM cũ tại kho lên EC2 theo hướng lift-and-shift, không cần duy trì site dự phòng hay failback. DRS có thể dùng để chuyển server lên AWS, nhưng AWS giới thiệu MGN là dịch vụ được khuyến nghị cho migration.

Phương án phù hợp

Application Migration Service (MGN), hiện mang tên AWS Transform MGN: cài Replication Agent, replicate, launch test instance, sau đó cutover (bài Storage Gateway, Snow, DataSync, DMS, phần 3).

Ghi nhớ:

DR cho server on-premises với RPO tính bằng giây, RTO tính bằng phút, chi phí duy trì thấp: AWS Elastic Disaster Recovery (kế thừa CloudEndure Disaster Recovery).
Chuyển hẳn server lên AWS: MGN.
Nhân bản EBS cho test với hiệu năng đầy đủ ngay: snapshot + fast snapshot restore.

Several services copy data in similar ways but for different purposes: disaster recovery, migration or data replication.

Some services share a mechanism (continuous replication, restoring from a copy) but serve different purposes. Choose each service to see when to use it, why it does not fit the matching MFTECH situation, and what to choose instead:

DR for on-premises or cloud-based servers: continuous replication into a low-cost staging area subnet (affordable storage, minimal compute) in your AWS account; launch recovery instances within minutes from the latest state or an earlier point in time; non-disruptive drills and failback to the primary site once the issue is resolved. AWS describes RPOs of seconds and RTOs of minutes. DRS replaces CloudEndure Disaster Recovery (the CloudEndure Disaster Recovery page now redirects to the AWS DRS page).

Vì sao không chọn trong tình huống này

MFTECH is moving the old warehouse VMs to EC2 for good with a lift-and-shift; it does not need a standby site or failback. DRS can be used to move servers to AWS, but AWS presents MGN as the recommended service for migrations.

AWS Application Migration Service (MGN), now named AWS Transform MGN: install the Replication Agent, replicate, launch test instances, then cut over (Storage Gateway, Snow, DataSync, DMS lesson, part 3).
